My Top 4 Organizing Tips + Hacks for Home

Ok I know the phrase is “Spring Cleaning” but what I really get excited about is Spring Organizing. Where my fellow Enneagram 1’s at?? (Probably Googling “When is the 2nd season of Marie Kondo airing on Netflix” like I do weekly.) But even if you don’t enjoy the act of organizing, you most likely enjoy having things organized. Below are four of my favorite super simple, yet massively impactful organizing tips.

1. The Homework Caddy

This is our first year with an elementary student in the house. I realized within the first few days of Kindergarten that we were going to need a solution for all of the paper coming home as well as a mobile desk of sorts since sometimes we do homework at a dining table, picnic table, or the floor. I scoured Amazon and Target for the perfect solution and finally settled on this caddy from mDesign.

It has one large compartment that is the perfect size for all of the important papers that come home and 3 smaller compartments which I divided into 1. All things pencils, 2. All things Crafting, 3. All things Coloring. Having this as our homework + school hub this year has been a lifesaver!

2. Extra Wide Expanding Cutlery Organizing Tray

This kitchen drawer organizer has a place for everything. I use this specifically for all of my cooking tools and kitchen gadgets. Not only does it keep everything neatly in its place, but it also helps to keep your kitchen collection to a minimum because there’s only so much room. It expands to fit any drawer size large or small and locks nicely in place at whichever size you choose.

3. Organized LEGO Storage

My boys love LEGO. So much so that I now know the plural of LEGO is LEGO. Their collection is growing quickly and I needed a better solution than a hall closet full of the original retail boxes. I read all the blogs. Searched all the Pinterest posts. And nothing was really fitting what I had in mind. So back to Amazon I go to reinvent the wheel and I came upon this fantastic system from Iris USA. Originally designed with scrapbookers in mind, this 6 drawer unit was exactly what I was looking for when it came to wrangeling all of our bricks.

Each of the 6 “drawers” comes fully out of the unit as a carrying case which is perfect for little builders to grab a case and go create. There is an endless number of ways you can choose to organize your LEGO, but for now I chose to organize by theme. That very likely could change in the future. Our unit lives on top of our kids’ game storage shelves inside an under-stair hall closet. It’s perfectly out of reach for the 3 year old, but just the right height for the 6 year old to get in and out of.

4. Lazy Susan Cupboard Storage

Lazy Susan cupboards are a blessing and a curse. They maximize what you can fit in a space, but if it’s not well organized, you’ve got mac + cheese boxes falling all over the place any time you spin to find the oatmeal. Enter these wedge shaped storage units from mDesign.

Group like items together - nuts + snacks, dry smoothie ingredients, pasta + sauce - so things are easy to find in a hurry and you can fit them all snug in one storage container so they stay in place. And then marvel at the beauty that is an organized kitchen cupboard.

With just these 4 items you can make a huge impact on keeping your house neat and organized in just a few hours. I’d love to hear which organizing hack was a lightbulb moment for you! Share over in the comments on Instagram.
